For a Service Dog in Training, the final steps are often the most crucial. Those steps often happen on the NEADS campus. At any one time, approximately 10 to 12 Service Dogs in Training live on the NEADS campus in our Hawkins Canine Center while they work with NEADS trainers to learn their advanced obedience and Service Dog task work. This is the final phase of training before being matched with a client.

It costs approximately $10,000 to provide essential support for two of these Service Dogs in Training who call our campus home during this critical phase of their journey:

• Finish Training: NEADS trainers guide the Service Dogs in Training through advanced obedience and Service Dog task work for their future partners.
• Day-to-Day Care: Dedicated Canine Center attendants provide daily care, managing nutrition, exercise schedules, and grooming to keep our dogs healthy and thriving when they are off duty.
• Comfort & Care: Cozy beds, enriching toys, and healthy treats ensure their well-being while on campus.
• Essential Gear: Professional equipment – leashes, collars, Gentle Leaders, and special vests – equip them for their future roles as Service Dogs.
